Otti to compensate non-indigenes dismissed from Abia Civil Service

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has assured civil servants in the state that his administration wouldcontinue to protect their interests.

This is even as announced that non-indigenes who were dismissed from the Abia State Civil Service by a previous administration in the state would be compensated for the injustice done them.

Otti spoke on Thursday at Umuahia Township Stadium during the Workers Day celebration in the state. He lamented that many civil servants were arbitrarily sacked from the service because of where they originally hailed.

“We are also in discussion with many of your colleagues who were arbitrarily dismissed from the civil service by the past government for reason of where they originally hailed from, not minding their immense contributions to the growth of the state.

“Our plan is to properly compensate them for the grave injustice done them and ultimately make things right with them.

“We must never be known as a state that discriminates against people on account of base sentiments and primordial political considerations. Abia is and will always be welcoming to all hard working men and women,”; Otti said.

He said that the formal sector health insurance programme which his administration launched with civil servants as the primary target have so far recorded 20,000 enrollment.

The governor said the poor working condition at Abia State Secretariat and Nnamdi Azikiwe Secretariat in Umuahia has been addressed as power and water have been restored to ensure the workers’ well-being.

He further said that his administration has been keeping to his campaign promise of regular salary payment.
