HE had to outsmart world famous tracker Bear Grylls in a deadly game of cat and mouse for Netflix’s Celebrity Bear Hunt.
But for Joe Thomas, the tough terrain, insane humidity and formidable foe weren’t the worst of it.

star, 41, revealed the surprisingly gross part of the show that was impossible to appreciate through the screen.
on behalf of Quizlet , Joe revealed the downside of being close quarters with survivalist Bear.
“He is very smelly,” he said. “There was a bit where he blindfolded me using the thing he’d have around his neck, I mean that sounds quite kinky, and genuinely he was like the f***ing smelliest thing I’ve ever… I mean disgusting.
“I genuinely think he might not wash at all because he’s trying to camouflage himself and he’s like if you smell nice that’s when the animals smell you.
“So I genuinely think he might not have washed. That was the smelliest thing I’ve ever smelled.
“It was like it’d gone beyond like old sweat. It was into a whole kind of new spectrum of smells, so that was a moment.”
Twelve celebrities, including Spice Girl , presenter Big Zuu, Strictly’s and rugby ace , travelled to Costa Rica to push themselves, physically, further than ever before.
They stayed in a beachside hut and competed in terrifying challenges, before having to evade capture from – a sprawling area of wilderness with three extraction points.
“My favourite was like the physical challenges,” said Joe. “It was really cool.
“I mean I love all that. Jumping into water and running around and hiding. The Bear Pit itself was really really hard, just physically really hard.
“I remember Danny Cipriani coming out and he he’s a professional athlete and he looked totally shattered.”
Prior to going to Costa Rica, each contestant performed a fitness exam featuring the bleep test – a gym favourite that sees participants run between two points before a beep signals.
As the test progresses and fatigue sets in, the frequency of the beeps speeds up and, for most, eventually it becomes too hard to beat.
Super fit Danny, 37, completed the test, meaning if he found the pit a struggle physically then everyone else was going to suffer.
While he may have been their rival in the Pit, Bear did his best to prepare the celebs for the challenge and gave them guidance on how to beat him.
Not all of these methods made it on-screen though, and one in particular left Joe looking like he’d gone slightly mad in the heat.
“The other thing I felt annoyed about was that there was a little bit where taught us how to be all these different animals.
“He taught us snake mode and like there was a thing called ninja mode, and there was a thing called baboon mode, and he taught us all different ways of running in a concealed way.
“After one of the challenges, they said ‘how was that?’ and I was going ‘Yeah I was just trying to stay in baboon mode’ – but they cut out the bit where he told us these different animals so it looked like baboon mode was just this thing that I’d come up with.
“So I felt that I was slightly stitched up there but other than that it was great.”
Despite debuting at number one on the Netflix chart, it was revealed in June that big budget Bear Hunt had been scrapped by Netflix, despite Bear’s hope for a second series.
