I’m leaving Bayer Leverkusen – Xabi Alonso confirms ahead of Real Madrid switch

Published on May 09, 2025 at 01:23 PM

Bayer Leverkusen manager, Xabi Alonso, has announced he is leaving the Bundesliga club this summer.

Alonso confirmed this during his press conference on Friday.

The Spaniard has long been linked with a switch to Real Madrid.

He is now close to making a return to the Bernabeu, where he played from 2009 until 2014.

The 43-year-old will leave B04, where he has enjoyed phenomenal success since in his almost three-year stint.

“The club and I have agreed that these two last games will be my final ones as Bayer Leverkusen coach,”; Alonso said.

Bild reports Alonso gave an emotional speech to his players in the dressing room.

However, he stopped short of confirming his move to Real Madrid, where he will replace Carlo Ancelotti.
