Victor Umeh, the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Senator representing Anambra Central, has criticized the recent demolitions at the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos. He described the actions taken by the Lagos State Government as illegal and a blatant violation of jurisdiction.

Umeh made these remarks on Monday while appearing on ‘The Morning Brief,’ a program on Channels Television.

He condemned the Commissioner for Physical Planning in Lagos State for what he referred to as an unlawful exercise of authority.

“The actions taken by the Commissioner for Physical Planning in Lagos State constitute an affront and a violation of the law. The matter concerns the treatment of individuals with due regard for the law. This country is governed by the constitution and a set of established laws,” he stated.

“I am disheartened to learn that the Commissioner for Physical Planning in Lagos State attempted to justify his illegal actions,” he added.

He emphasized that the Trade Fair Complex is a federal establishment managed by the Federal Government.

Umeh, who is also a member of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, asserted that the Lagos authorities lack the legal authority to act upon federal property.

He further explained that the Trade Fair Management Board has been solely responsible for the administration of the complex, which includes granting approvals for developments, collecting property rates, and managing ground rent.
