Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Wednesday, expressed his willingness to assist Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State in attracting foreign investors to the region.
Obasanjo highlighted the importance of leaders in mobilizing both local and international investors for Nigeria.
He made these remarks during the inauguration of the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Conference Centre in Bauchi.
Obasanjo stated that Nigeria's tourism sector has the potential to be developed to draw in foreign investments.
He remarked: “We can be developed into one of the premier tourist destinations in Nigeria. Visitors will have the opportunity to stay in hotels.
“They will be able to engage in discussions and hold conferences in this international conference center, making Bauchi a focal point, the heart of tourism for Nigeria.
“I congratulate you once again. Not only are we inaugurating this center, but we are also commencing with a conference to discuss investment and the needs of Nigeria today. We must mobilize investments both locally and internationally.
“Governor, let me assure you, I am willing to accompany you anywhere to secure investments for Bauchi State.”
The former President also praised Mohammed for the progress made in the state.
“Regarding the development of Bauchi State, I was pleased with what I observed and what I learned. I did not anticipate that it would be long before you would invite me here.
“This is particularly significant, an international conference center named after one of the greatest figures in our history, especially in our journey towards independence and in leading our nation, Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto,” he added.
