Nigerian musician, Abolore Adegbola Akande, widely known as 9ice, has announced his intention to acquire a tribal mark when he turns 50.

The 45-year-old artist shared this news in a recent video posted on his TikTok account.

The singer, who hails from Ogbomosho, mentioned that he wishes to get the tribal mark in tribute to his father, who bears the same mark.

“When I reach 50, I will get the same mark as my father. That’s my plan for my birthday. Many of my friends have said I won’t go through with it, but you will see,” he expressed.

9ice is celebrated for his impactful use of the Yoruba language in his music, along with his proverbial lyrics and distinctive delivery style.

He rose to fame with his hit song ‘Gongo Aso’ in 2008. Since then, he has produced numerous albums and popular singles.

In an interview with Nancy Isime in August 2025, 9ice revealed that he practices traditional worship.

He recounted how he turned to traditional beliefs after being referred to an Ifa priest while facing a “spiritual attack” that caused him to vomit blood for six months.

The artist mentioned that after his recovery, he regretted not embracing traditionalism sooner.
