An investigation regarding a video currently circulating on social media has commenced by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) alleging impersonation during one of its examinations.

A statement signed by Lanre Olasunkanmi, Registrar/Chief Executive of ICAN, said the body was reacting to a viral video showing suspected proxies caught impersonating candidates during the ICAN examination.

According to the statement, “In the footage, a man was apprehended and was alleged to be sitting on behalf of a bank manager.”

The statement also explained that the same video featured a female proxy who alleged she was writing the test for a commissioner in Taraba State, saying that in the recording, exam supervisors questioned the suspect who identified herself in the footage as Leavitt Felix.

Olasunkanmi said that ICAN as a body maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy for all forms of examination malpractice, including impersonation, in order to ensure its policies are properly followed.

It added that the Institute’s examination processes are guided by globally accepted standards of integrity, assuring that any attempt to compromise them is treated with utmost seriousness.

The lady had claimed that she was writing the examination on behalf of the finance commissioner, but the supervisor’s records showed that Sarah Enoch Adi was the person for whom she was writing the examination.

The Commissioner denied the allegation, saying that she does not know anything about the issue but only saw the video clip in which a lady was caught writing the ICAN examination, and she claimed that she sent her to write the examination on her behalf.

She added that she does not know the lady and that was why she ignored the video clip, and did not even respond to calls on the issue.

According to the commissioner, she is not a member of ICAN and, therefore, doesn’t have anything to do with the ICAN examination.

The commissioner said that she does not know the lady caught, let alone sending her to write the ICAN examination, a body which she does not belong to, adding that she had not been invited by the police in connection with the viral video.
