A founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Osun State, Bisi Akande, has revealed that he played a key role in the selection of Yemi Osinbajo as Vice President.
Akande stated that he nominated Osinbajo for the position after discussions with President Bola Tinubu in 2011.
This statement contradicts common assertions that Tinubu personally nominated Osinbajo as the running mate to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Nevertheless, Akande recalled that he advised Tinubu to find a replacement for Buhari’s previous running mate, Tunde Bakare, with another candidate.
During his appearance on Edmund Obilo’s podcast, State Affairs, Akande remarked: “I nominated Osinbajo for Vice President after consulting with Tinubu. I mentioned it clearly in my book; I said to Tinubu, ‘In 2011, you were discussing with Buhari about replacing Bakare with someone else, who was that person?’ He answered Osinbajo, and I said I would recommend Osinbajo, which I did.”
