Manchester United left-back, Luke Shaw has apologised to former boss, Erik ten Hag, saying he failed the Dutchman during his time as the club manager.

Erik ten Hag was Manchester United manager between 2022 and 2024.

During this period, he won the EFL Cup and the FA Cup.

But after series of defeats at the start of the 2024-25 season, the Red Devils decided to sack him in October last year.

Shaw played just 62 games for Manchester United with Ten Hag as manager, registering one goal and eight assists.

He told The Athletic, that he was not there for the Dutchman at a time he needed him most.

“I felt a little that I failed Erik with all the injuries and everything,” he said.

“I wasn’t there for him towards the end and it wasn’t nice. Much of last season, I just felt like I disappointed many people…”

The sack of the former Ajax manager did not bring solution to Manchester United’s woes last season.

He was replaced with Ruben Amorim who joined from Sporting CP in November last year and led the team to 15th place in the Premier League table and a defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the final of the Europa League.

Ten Hag has since been appointed Bayer Leverkusen manager, taking over from Xabi Alonso who is now at Real Madrid.
