Former Kano State Governor and leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has refuted claims that he controls the operations of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration, emphasizing that the Kano State Government functions autonomously.
In an interview with BBC Hausa, held in celebration of his 69th birthday in Kano, Kwankwaso dismissed the rumors of a conflict between him and Governor Yusuf as unfounded and politically motivated.
“There is no issue between me and Governor Abba. We have given him the opportunity to perform, and he is doing his utmost,” Kwankwaso stated.
“Those who claim that I manage contracts or sway government decisions are merely being mischievous.”
The NNPP presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections also warned party members who are leaving the NNPP or the Kwankwasiyya movement that such departures could have political repercussions in the 2027 elections.
“If anyone believes they can abandon us and still succeed in an election in Kano, they are only fooling themselves,” Kwankwaso cautioned. “Our political movement will continue to take firm action against betrayal.”
The former Defence Minister expressed confidence that the NNPP would remain a strong political entity in upcoming elections, highlighting that Nigerians, especially the youth, are now more politically aware and committed to resisting manipulation at the polls.
