The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has claimed that a former Chief of Naval Staff instructed soldiers to prevent him from accessing a parcel of land in Abuja.

A viral video captured the moment when the Minister and a soldier were involved in a tense discussion regarding entry to the land.

While Wike insisted on gaining access, the soldier was heard stating that he had been ordered not to permit Wike onto the property.

Speaking to reporters after the incident, Wike asserted that he will not be intimidated, emphasizing that the Chief of Naval Staff should have contacted his office rather than commanding soldiers to obstruct him.

He remarked, “The officer stated he was sent by the former Chief of Naval Staff. I find it hard to believe that someone who has reached that level cannot come to my office to say, ‘Look, this is what is happening.’

“Is it because he is a military officer that he feels entitled to use soldiers to intimidate Nigerians? I am not one of those individuals who will yield to blackmail or intimidation.

“This is something that cannot even be substantiated. Where are the documents? This situation has led to government officials performing their duties while others resort to using security forces to intimidate them.”
