The boys were rescued from the water, but Leanne was later found unresponsive,

Leanne’s husband Nathan Gregory desperately tried to give her “the kiss of life,” his mum, Kim Jones, told The Telegraph .

She said: “It is devastating. Leanne drowned trying to save her two boys who got into trouble in choppy waters.

“They can both swim, they’re good swimmers, but the current was too strong.

“They were in difficulty and she went out to rescue them. But the waters were too rough and choppy for her.”

Leanne’s sons, in their early teens, were saved by bystanders during the snorkelling excursion on the island of Bimini.

Kim said: “Nathan tried to save her, by giving her the kiss of life. Sadly, it was too late.”

She told the outlet that her son and grandkids were due to return to their Stapleford, Nottinghamshire home on Friday.

It is unclear if Leanne’s body was repatriated with them.

A spokesman for Bahaman said: “Preliminary information indicates that the deceased was snorkelling with her husband and two sons when a strong current reportedly swept both children away.

“In an attempt to rescue her sons, the woman was also swept away. She was later rescued and transported to the ferry dock, where CPR was reportedly administered.”

Leanne was rushed to a local clinic and pronounced dead despite desperate attempts to save her life.

Witness Katie Resciniti wrote on Facebook: “I was there for all of it. She’s a hero.

She added: “Also pray for her husband. He went out to save the other boy but a bystander was able to get him.

“It was truly terrible and nobody’s fault. Just two boys who were eager to get in the water and then things went crazy fast.

“Two of the best parents I’ve ever seen in my entire life.”

Nathan and Leanne were childhood sweethearts who had been together for more than 20 years, having first met in school.

A spokesman for the Foreign, and Development Office said: “Our thoughts are with the family of a British woman who has died in the .

“We are in contact with the local authorities and providing support to her family.”

At least four people have drowned off the coast of holiday hotspot Bimini since 2024.
