Discover the Wild New 'Human Refrigerator' Designed to Combat Heatwaves – But Is It Worth the Jaw-Dropping Price?

A BIZARRE new “human refrigerator” has hit the market to help those feeling the heat in the sunshine keep cool this summer.

Set at a chilly 15C, the freezing cold box on wheels has been created just in time to beat the as temperatures could reach above 40C.

Japanese whizzes have crafted a so-called personal cooling box for the human body dubbed the Do Hiemon Box.

But it comes at a hefty price.

A single Do Hiemon Box is available to buy for 1.5m yen – or £6,862 – and it requires extra cash to make the electrical cooling pump work.

The wacky new invention has been created by two companies – a specialist vending machine manufacturer and steel toolbox company.

Each Do Hiemon Box comes in at 7ft tall and almost 4ft deep allowing for easy and comfortable access for all.

The user sits on a built-in chair inside the stainless steel box and faces out through a tall glass panel – much like being inside a vending machine.

Powerful jets then blast chilled air to the head, neck, shoulders and back to help rapidly lower body temperature within just five minutes.

The unit is maintained at around 15C and is programmed to shut down automatically after 20 minutes of use.

There are three settings in total which change up the airflow and cooling angles and temperatures.

It costs 16 yen or 7p-an-hour to operate, according to manufacturer SDRS.

This makes it more energy-efficient than the average air conditioner in Japan.

The box was first created after Japan was hit by 38C heat earlier in the year as the government issued heatstroke warnings.

SDRS say after just 10 minutes inside the box, users may feel less tired too due to the temperature shock.

As it sits on wheels, the box can be moved around despite its weight and can even be used outside.

The product went on sale in April, according to its supplier Trusco.

One unit was donated to Maebashi City Hall in Gunma Prefecture for visitors to use free of charge during opening hours if they need to cool down.

The cool boxes are yet to make their way over to Europe, where several nations are currently battling wildfires and expecting heatwaves.
