The controversy erupted after shared a clip that allegedly showed pro-regime burning images of Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi – thought to be “the new leader of the revolution” – and US President Donald Trump.
Although the video was framed as a protest clip, many accused the multi-millionaire of amplifying content that supported the Iranian regime, a government widely criticised for human rights abuses.
At a time when millions of Iranians are living under severe political repression, as well as censorship and economic hardship, fans expected influential figures, such as Huda, to stand with the victims of the recent government crackdown.
Following the Story posted on her Instagram – which she’s since removed – the backlash spread like fire, with former fans of Huda Beauty taking to social media to voice their fury.
Thousands of users launched a campaign calling for a of Huda Beauty products. Hashtags such as #HudaAgainstIran and #BoycottHudaBeauty are trending among Iranian communities all over the world.
In response, many consumers have announced they will no longer purchase Huda Beauty products, with many even flushing their beauty products down the toilet.
Some reports, as per Jfeed, say that the 42-year-old allegedly lost a staggering 40,000 Instagram followers in a single day following the backlash.
One person slamming the influential figure, Donya Dadrasan ( donyadadrasan ), shared a strong message to call out the mogul.
“Huda Beauty – you claim you support the Iranian people who are demanding change and are risking their lives. But yet you’ve been posting content that supports and normalises the brutal regime that is killing them,” she said in the video , destroying Huda Beauty products.
“You need to understand what you’re amplifying – this is a regime that arrests, tortures and executes people for speaking out.
“It also targets women for how they dress and live.”
Donya continued: “Iranians, inside and outside Iran, have been very clear about what they want – and that is end to the Islamic Republic.
“If you can’t support that, then stay silent.”
Despite being loyal fans of the brand for a decade, many are now boycotting the multi-millionaire, either binning the items or smashing them to pieces, a clip posted by @ stephwithdadeets showed.
“From today onward, no one buys, supports, or uses Huda Beauty,” the outraged social media user urged.
In a follow-up video, as per Jfeed , Huda stated: “I see a lot of people online right now saying I’m pro-regime.
“Transparently I’m not pro-regime but I also don’t know enough about the regime. I’ve heard a lot of mixed things.
“I don’t think I have the right to have an opinion on what’s going on in Iran – this is just my opinion,” she told the remaining followers on her Instagram Stories.”
The beauty mogul continued: “But a regime change by the hand of America is a scary thing.
“People out there are angry at me because they think that I support the regime of Iran or that I am supporting anything that is hurting the Iranian people – that’s just wild. I can’t believe anyone would think I would support that.”
However, critics dismissed this as a “non-apology,” accusing Huda of spreading regime propaganda at a time when Iranians are risking their lives for freedom.
One person said: “You support the regime. If you don’t have enough information, then stop speaking, or take the time to learn.
“Don’t spread ignorance with confidence. You’re disrespecting the blood of tens of thousands of Iranians murdered by the Islamic Republic of Iran , just because your personal politics are anti-US.”
