Houses razed as two Benue communities clash

Published on June 29, 2025 at 01:51 PM

A communal clash erupted on Saturday between residents of Mbaiase community in Gwer East Local Government Area and Igbinde village in Konshisha LGA, resulting in the destruction of property and several houses being set ablaze.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama revealed the incident in a post on X(formerly Twitter) on Sunday, stating that the violence began around 9:30 a.m. when suspected militias from Mbaiase allegedly launched an attack on Igbinde, a village under the Mbagusa/Mbatser Council Ward of Konshisha LGA.

According to sources cited by Makama, several thatched houses were torched and valuables destroyed during the attack. However, no casualties have been reported as of press time.

Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke, alongside other security agencies, were swiftly deployed to the area to prevent further escalation and maintain order.

In response to the incident, stakeholders from both local governments, including traditional rulers and council chairmen, have begun dialogue aimed at resolving the renewed hostilities and finding a lasting solution to the long-standing inter-communal tensions.

Meanwhile, security operatives have intensified surveillance and confidence-building patrols in the affected areas to forestall any reprisal attacks and restore peace.
