INISHERIN (3.13 York, nap)
Ryan Moore has been clocking up the big-race wins and this four-year-old can add to his tally. He did really well last season for trainer Kevin Ryan. After not staying in the 2,000 Guineas, he was wisely dropped back to this six-furlong trip. That saw him win the Sandy Lane at Haydock before a brilliant Commonwealth Cup victory at Royal Ascot. It’s true that he dipped towards the end of the season but he’s back having had a wind op and with Moore in the saddle for the first time. He likes to be up with the pace â which is usually a smart move at York â and anything close to his best form would do the job.
GALLANT (4.18 York, nb)
Looks ready to hit the target for Andrew Balding. He caught the eye with a fast-finishing fourth on handicap debut at Newmarket last time. Oisin Murphy got his timing slightly wrong there and this three-year-old had lots left crossing the line. The handicapper has generously knocked him down 1lb despite that promising run and stepping up to seven furlongs looks a wise move. He likes decent ground and should take a big step forward today.
STRESSFREE (2.10 York, treble)
He didn’t live up to his name at Epsom last time when he got no luck in running before going down by a length. That was an excellent effort in the circumstances and he should be happy stepping up in trip today. He has been placed on his past two visits to York and can more than match that today.
