TEMPLEGATE’S selections for Thursday’s horse racing are outlined below.

OCEAN CONQUEST (12.55 Ludlow, nap)

The Twiston-Davies runner appeared revitalized when winning on his return here two weeks ago. He found the two-mile distance a bit sharp but managed to get his nose in front near the finish. Stepping up in distance today seems like a smart decision, and he still looks a few pounds ahead of the handicapper.

LEADER IN THE PARK (3.25 Newbury, nb)

He should have an easy time in this small field. He enjoys leading the race and has won from the front a couple of times in similar events last season. Trainer Ben Pauling has made a strong start to the campaign.

ABSOLUTE STAR (6.15 Chelmsford, treble)

She has won two of her last three races, including on the sand at Kempton last time out. She didn’t need to exert herself fully there and can handle a 5lb weight increase.

PRIZED JET (1.20 Sedgefield, Lucky 15)

He was performing notably well before falling late in his last race here and has since transferred to the excellent Jennie Candlish. She is capable of securing a win here.
