A TEENAGER has been taken into custody after reportedly possessing explosive materials.

The 16-year-old, whose identity cannot be revealed for legal reasons, has been detained on suspicion of violations under the Explosives Act after allegedly having the items in his possession at a residence in Blackpool.

Law enforcement and specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team arrived to evaluate the materials.

Several nearby homes have been evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Those affected are receiving assistance from specialized officers with Lancashire Police.

Chief Inspector Martin Wyatt of Lancashire Constabulary stated: “We have a significant presence of police and emergency services in the area, and we ask the public to avoid the vicinity where possible.

“The response is expected to continue into the evening, and I want to express my gratitude to the residents who have been impacted for their support and cooperation as we carry out our duties.

“We understand that this situation may be disruptive and concerning for the local community, but we want to assure all residents that we are working diligently with our partners to ensure the area is safe and to resolve this matter as quickly as possible.”

A representative from Lancashire Fire and Rescue commented: “We are assisting Lancashire Police at an ongoing incident on Gloucester Avenue, Blackpool.

“Several properties have been evacuated as a precaution, and a cordon has been established.

“We kindly ask the public to avoid the area while police and specialized teams continue their operations.

“We will remain on site with our partners to help bring this incident to a safe resolution.”
