Smilla Holmberg struck deep into stoppage time as Arsenal rescued a 1-1 Women's Super League draw with Manchester United at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
United had been closing in on their first league victory of the season after Julia Zigiotti Olme punished an Arsenal defensive mistake in the second half. Georgia Stanway's misplaced pass opened the opportunity and Zigiotti Olme finished through goalkeeper Misa Rodríguez to put the visitors ahead.
Holmberg delivers at the death
Arsenal increased the pressure as the match entered its closing stages and finally found their equaliser in added time. Leah Williamson sent a cross towards the back post, where Holmberg met it with a volley into the roof of the net.
The goal preserved Arsenal's unbeaten start to the WSL campaign and denied United a breakthrough win under manager Eva Olid.
United show improvement but wait for first win
Manchester United entered the fixture looking for a response after defeats to London City Lionesses and Chelsea. Their organised performance put them within minutes of taking all three points, but Holmberg's late intervention left them still searching for their first league victory.
Arsenal, meanwhile, moved to five points and remained unbeaten, although the draw left them four points behind leaders Manchester City after the weekend's completed matches.
Elsewhere in the WSL
Chelsea beat Birmingham City 2-0, while London City Lionesses won 4-1 away at Charlton Athletic. Manchester City had already strengthened their position at the top with a 4-2 victory over Liverpool on Friday.
The dramatic finish in north London nevertheless provided Saturday's late headline, with Holmberg turning a likely Arsenal defeat into a point in the final moments.
