Pregnant Woman, 21, Tragically Murdered as Authorities Launch Search for Her Unborn Baby

A MUM-TO-BE was kidnapped, stabbed to death and had her baby ripped from her womb, days after revealing that she was going to have a girl.

María Camila Potosí, who was eight months pregnant, disappeared after leaving for a routine antenatal check on July 16.

The 21-year-old was found on Monday, wrapped in sheets and underneath a pile of blankets, four miles away from her home in Cali, Colombia.

When lifted the pile, they saw that she had been stabbed multiple times – and that her unborn child had been cut from her womb and was missing.

The victim’s hands and feet were tied, and signs of torture were visible on her body.

CCTV footage from the afternoon of María’s disappearance captured her final known movements.

She was seen climbing onto the back of a motorcycle ridden by a woman she met two months earlier through a local support scheme for pregnant women.

That rider has reportedly given changing accounts to investigators and remains a central focus of the inquiry.

Police are still searching for the missing child.

María’s mother, Alba Gomez, has urged the killers to return her granddaughter, who she has named Alahia, Colombian outlet RCN Noticias reported.

“The only thing I ask with this appeal and with the hopeful faith I hold that my baby is alive – is for her to be found,” she said.

“I ask that the people who have her search their hearts and return her to me.”

Earlier in the day of her kidnapping, her daughter had helped care for a sick relative at her sister-in-law’s home in Meléndez before heading to her appointment.

She then sent a quick message to her mother about a last-minute medical errand. Her husband raised the alarm when she failed to return home.

Prior to her disappearance, María posted images of a joyous gender-reveal gathering online.

Surrounded by gifts and balloons, she is seen smiling while standing next to her husband. She was due to give birth in just a few weeks.

Relatives remembered her as kind, innocent and overly trusting, a young woman whose greatest dream was simply to become a mother and build a family home.

The case is being investigated as a possible feminicide, but no arrests have been made yet.

Cali ombudsman Gerardo Mendoza demanded a “swift, exhaustive with a gender focus”.

He added that the “extreme gravity” of the “cannot go unpunished”.

Meanwhile, senator-elect Jennifer Pedraza said about the case: “They kidnapped, tortured and murdered a 21-year-old pregnant woman.

“In this country, nothing happens. We demand justice.”

Former presidential candidate Sondra Macollins said: “What impotence this causes. We trust that the Public Prosecutor’s Office and police will deliver rigorous answers.”
