Harry Kane injury scare with England captain to have scan on ankle ahead of USA World Cup clash after he’s seen limping

HARRY KANE will have a scan on his right ankle after suffering an injury during England’s opening World Cup game with Iran.

The Three Lions skipper went down in the 48th minute of his country’s 6-2 victory on Monday.

He was taken off and replaced by Callum Wilson in the 76th minute.

Kane then gave England fans cause for concern when he limped out of the Khalifa Stadium with his ankle strapped.

And The Athletic have now confirmed he is set to have a scan to determine the severity of the problem – with England set to face USA on Friday.

Journalist David Ornstein tweeted: “Harry Kane to have scan on right ankle.

“England captain took heavy blow on 48 mins of Iran win, went off in 75th + later seen with light strapping & slight limp.

“Indications were he was ok – England will hope results clear.”

Kane assisted two of England’s six goals in their stunning World Cup opener.

And while he did come off with a knock, manager Gareth Southgate played down the injury after the game.

He said: “I think Harry’s fine. It looked a bad tackle but he carried on in the game.

“We took him off really because we felt it was a moment we could do that.

“It was good to be able to refresh the forward line not only to get the players on, but also to get the players on because there were some very close calls in who starts in those positions.

“We have some fabulous talent and we had players that, if we needed them to change the game, they could do it.”
