A TEENAGER is in a critical condition after a gunman on a scooter opened fire on a packed restaurant in France.
The 18-year-old woman was rushed to hospital after the Saturday night shooting which also injured a 17-year-old girl and a 27-year-old man.
The assailant targeted the Four Five restaurant in Vénissieux, a suburb of Lyon, at around 1.40am.
Witnesses described a young man approaching the venue before repeatedly firing a long gun at diners sat in the terrace area.
He then fled the scene on an electric scooter, local media reports.
A resident living nearby told Le Progrès : “I was fast asleep when a loud burst of gunfire pulled me out of bed.
“A little while later, I heard shouts and crying in the distance, then people passing under my windows saying that someone had been shot.”
The young woman was shot in the side and was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
“We have no recent updates on her condition”, the prosecutors office said Sunday morning.
The teenager and the man both suffered injuries from shards of glass shattered by the shots.
Both received medical treatment at the scene.
Prosecutors have opened an investigation into attempted murder by an organised criminal group.
The case was assigned to the Rhône division responsible for organised and specialised , known as the DCOS.
The motive remains unclear. Prosecutors have not confirmed a connection to drug trafficking.
According to local media, one person was left injured after a shooting at the same restaurant just months earlier in February.
And in June, a man on a scooter opened fire outside the Le Stadium bar and tobacconist just two miles away in Saint-Fons.
Terrified residents fled as the hooded and armed figure approached the bar.
After firing several shots the assailant fled. One person suffered injuries from smashed glass inside the premises.
The town had already been left reeling after a shooting in January when shots were fired in the middle of the night.
Two men on scooters had fired at a house while two people were inside.
No injuries were reported, but a probe was launched by into the incident.
