The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Wole Oluyede, has described silence as a dangerous culture that enables bad leadership and worsens hardship in the state.
Oluyede, who promised a new era of progress for the people of Ekiti, urged residents to rally behind him and deliver their votes overwhelmingly in the June 20, 2026 governorship election.
In a strongly worded statement released on Tuesday in Ado Ekiti through his Special Adviser on Media, Gani Salau, the PDP candidate declared that the rising wave of injustice, corruption and suffering in society is not accidental, but a direct consequence of silence and public passivity.
According to him, when individuals with negative intentions unite, it becomes imperative for well-meaning citizens to also come together or risk being overwhelmed.
He emphasised that passivity is far from neutral, warning that inaction creates fertile ground for injustice, corruption, and societal decay to thrive unchecked. He added that poor leadership often flourishes in environments where citizens fail to challenge it.
Reinforcing his position, Oluyede cited the famous words of Edmund Burke: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
He stressed that wrongdoing does not succeed solely because of its strength, but because of the fear, silence, or indifference of the majority.
According to him, even small acts of resistance are more meaningful than apathy, as they prevent injustice from gaining acceptance through silence.
Oluyede further asserted that the decline in Ekiti State since the PDP lost power in 2018 was largely driven by a culture of silence and indifference, which, he said, allowed corruption and poor governance to thrive.
He declared: “I can bring about real change and execute impactful programmes that will eradicate backwardness and poverty, and position Ekiti among economically self-reliant and developed states within my first term.
“I am a prudent manager of both financial and human resources, drawing from my experience as an internationally accomplished medical doctor and businessman.”
The PDP flagbearer called on Ekiti people to rise decisively and use their votes to effect change, likening the required resolve to that of Spartan warriors determined to reclaim their future.
He expressed confidence that a new era is within reach if the electorate rejects bad leadership at the polls, assuring that the PDP, as a united and formidable platform, is fully behind his candidacy
