Guardiola slams Premier League for rejecting Man City’s request

Published on May 17, 2025 at 08:39 AM

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has claimed the Premier League is jeopardising his team’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League.

City will play in the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace at Wembley on Saturday.

Then 72 hours later, the former champions play Bournemouth at the Etihad, as they continue to fight for a Champions League spot.

Guardiola has now revealed City asked the Premier League to push the Bournemouth game back by 24 hours, but their request was thrown out.

The Premier League had brought Aston Villa vs Tottenham Hotspur forward to Friday night, to ensure Ange Postecoglou’s men have the same recovery time as their Europa League final opponents Manchester United.

Guardiola told journalists: “I would prefer to play on Wednesday – definitely. We’ve been fighting against this situation every single season for nine years. We’re going to play on Tuesday night, against an intense, physical and powerful team.

“Bournemouth are playing for the Europa League, and we have to deal with that. Tottenham play on Friday – and this is what we should do.

“It doesn’t change much to play Wednesday instead of Tuesday, but they [the Premier League] decide.”;;
