A human rights organization, Save the Poor and Needy Charity Initiative (SPANCI), has urged the immediate release of a 38-year-old man, Mr. Adetunji Muritala Raji, who was apprehended by officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 5, Edo State.

SPANCI made this request in a petition signed by its President, Comrade Yemi Ezekiel Bello.

The petition, directed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), characterized Raji’s detention, ordered by one Miss Alimi Adeyinka Nafisat, as unlawful, illegal, and unconstitutional.

According to SPANCI, Raji was arrested in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, and transferred to Zone 5, Edo State, on November 18, 2025, and he remains in custody as of now.

The organization appealed to the IGP to establish a panel to investigate the circumstances surrounding this case.

Excerpts from the petition state, “Our client was transported to Zone 5, Edo State, on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, and is still being held as of Wednesday, November 19, 2025. He has been coerced and will continue to be coerced into making a damaging statement or agreement in favor of Miss Nafisat, who resides in London but is reported to be arriving tomorrow to pursue her demands regarding our client.”

“The Inspector General of Police has cautioned the police against infringing on the fundamental rights of citizens and taking jurisdiction over civil matters of this nature.”

“The police are not a debt collection or money recovery agency; their role is to address crime and uphold law and order.”

“A thorough investigation into this matter should be conducted, and anyone found responsible must face the law. Our client should be released immediately after enduring many days of unlawful detention. Justice must be served and seen to be served in this case.”
