The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Monday, issued a final warning to defaulters of ground rent in the capital city.
Wike warned that those owing, risks losing their properties to the FCT Administration because there would be no more extension of grace period for payment.
He disclosed this to journalists after inspecting the ongoing construction of the 6 lanes road from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road 3, near Karmo in Abuja.
The road project being executed by Julius Berger is expected to be delivered in January, 2026.
However, Wike said payment of tax in the FCT would aid the execution of projects aimed at transforming the capital city
Wike said: “It’s unfortunate that most Nigerians who complain do not want to abide by the rules. You realize that when we started this enforcement there was presidential intervention to give them two or three weeks more and it’s more than four months now.
“We cannot carry out these projects without people paying their taxes, we did also make publications of extending, and of course, you know that they like to rush, if you don’t enforce, nobody will go and pay.
“We believe that this is the last time, we are not going to extend any further.
“You know the proper thing needs to be done, if you have not paid the property becomes that of the FCT Administration.”
