The Chinese government, through the Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has expressed its commitment to supporting eco-friendly development and strengthening climate cooperation with Nigeria.

In a policy statement entitled “Shared Future, Shared Journey: Building an Eco-Friendly Modernization Together,” the ambassador stressed that achieving a balance between economic growth and environmental conservation is a vital global challenge for sustainable development.

He pointed out that China, being the largest developing nation in the world, has made considerable progress in green development while providing solutions and expertise for global environmental governance.

He mentioned that the recently concluded “Two Sessions” in China ratified the nation’s 15th Five-Year Plan and an Ecological and Environmental Code, both of which establish a framework for high-quality economic advancement and a thorough transition to environmentally sustainable development.

“The plan advocates for hastening the green transition of economic and social development and actively engaging in global climate governance,” Yu stated, further noting that it strengthens commitments under international agreements such as the Paris Agreement.

He elaborated that China has incorporated ecological advancement into its national development strategy, executing measures to fight pollution, increase forest cover, and encourage conservation. He indicated that the country contributes approximately a quarter of the world’s newly created green areas and has consistently achieved reductions in desertification.

The ambassador also emphasized China’s leadership in renewable energy, highlighting that it has established the world’s largest renewable energy system and leads globally in solar and wind power capacity.

“We provide more than 80 percent of the world’s photovoltaic components and 70 percent of wind power equipment,” he remarked, characterizing China as both a proponent and an active executor of climate initiatives.

Regarding global collaboration, Yu mentioned that China remains a strong advocate for multilateral strategies and South-South partnerships, especially through programs like the Belt and Road, which fosters green development among partner nations.

He also highlighted the increasing cooperation between China and Africa in terms of environmental sustainability, which encompasses clean energy initiatives, desertification management, and agricultural advancements. He referenced the application of China’s Three-North Shelterbelt model in Africa’s Great Green Wall Initiative, along with the implementation of Juncao technology and renewable energy projects throughout the continent.

“Through these concrete actions, China and Africa are exemplifying solidarity and mutual development for the Global South,” he stated.

Turning to Nigeria, the envoy characterized the nation as a vital ally in climate action and regional green development, emphasizing the necessity for enhanced collaboration.

“China is prepared to collaborate with Nigeria to bolster policy discussions, exchange governance insights, and deepen partnerships in clean energy, disaster risk reduction, desertification management, and green finance,” Yu asserted.

He further noted that both nations could unite to advance environmental sustainability and long-term growth while reinforcing their bilateral relationship.

The ambassador reiterated China’s dedication to pursuing green, low-carbon, and high-quality development, expressing hope that global collaboration would lead to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
