Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State paid a condolence visit to the Awolowo family to express his sympathies following the death of Mr. Segun Awolowo Jr.

The governor, accompanied by members of the Ogun State Executive Council, was graciously received by the widow of the deceased, his children, his elderly mother, Hajia Abba Folawiyo, along with other family members.

Sharing his thoughts on the visit through his verified X account on Sunday, Governor Abiodun characterized the loss as both a personal and national tragedy, emphasizing the deeply emotional atmosphere present at the Awolowo family home.

He honored the late Segun Awolowo Jr. by describing him as “a wonderful gentleman, intelligent, warm, respectful, and effortlessly gracious,” and recognized the significant void his passing has created.

“We received the news of his passing with heavy hearts. For us, this is not only a national loss but also a personal one. We will always hold dear the memories we shared with him,” the governor stated.

Governor Abiodun conveyed his heartfelt condolences to Awolowo’s wife, children, the extended Awolowo family, and all those grieving his loss, praying for the tranquility of his soul and divine comfort for those he has left behind.

Segun Awolowo Jr., the first grandson of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who was the former Premier of the Western Region and a former Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, passed away on Thursday at the age of 62.
