Gov Otu turning blind eye to atrocities of close aides – PDP

Published on June 09, 2025 at 03:30 PM

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused Cross River State governor, Bassey Otu, of turning a blind eye to atrocities allegedly committed by his close aides.

Chairman of PDP in Cross River State, Venatius Ikem made the accusation in an exclusive interview with DAILY POST in Calabar.

He recalled how the managing director of the state Water Board was allegedly brutally beaten by a fellow officer in the same government and the governor has remained silent about it.

“How safe are the ordinary citizens of the state? Maybe because the MD is not from a certain part of the state! A special assistant was reportedly caught collecting government revenues via his private account and those of his cronies and widely reported but the governor is deaf to the gross misconduct. Where are we heading?

“Listening to voices on the streets generally leaves no one in doubt as to the devastating effects of the APC leadership.
The people are living in regret,”; the PDP chairman said.

He said the impact of the APC can only be measured by the well-being of the majority of the ordinary citizens.

According to him, the people are now wishing for the days of yore under the PDP.

“The APC is simply telling the people, if you thought the PDP chastised you with whips, we are here to chastise you with scorpions! And like the Israelites under Moses they’ll rather go back to Egypt!

“This may not exactly be the best analogy for the people but I am saying that’s the pathetic cry on our streets and our villages and communities.

“And all the APC is doing is trying desperately to coerce these people or rather their supposed leaders into it’s fold in the hope that they can conquer the people by proxy.

“But clearly it’s not working as we witnessed in Akwa Ibom State and as we are witnessing in Cross River State Northern Senatorial District.

“As far as the people are concerned, Governor Otu is doing nothing to improve their lives,”; he added.

Speaking on Otu’s endorsement for second term by his aides, Ikem said the APC chooses to present him for reelection, PDP will clap for them for the party the mistake.

Ikem added that PDP will find a more acceptable candidate that can give better hope to the people.
