Abia State Governor, Alex Otti received with sadness the death of 15 Umuahia-based traders who lost their lives on Saturday in an accident in Enugu State on their way back from a traditional marriage.
Governor Otti described as painful and devastating the loss of 15 precious lives in the accident, and regretted that the accident happened where the State could not render any form of emergency assistance.
Otti in a condolence message he released through his Special Adviser on Media, Ferdinand Ekeoma, said he had directed the Abia State Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection to quickly get across to the families of the deceased and survivors with a view to offering the necessary support that might be needed by affected families.
Governor Otti also called on drivers to always observe road safety rules and to desist from over speeding or driving against traffic, so as to reduce the carnage being witnessed on our roads.
“Governor Otti, on behalf of the government and people of Abia State, commiserates with the families and loved ones of the deceased and prays God to grant their souls eternal repose”, the statement concluded.
Meanwhile, the incident has continued to attract reactions across the state, with many describing it as shocking.
Photographs of the victims before they departed Abia for Enugu have been circulating on social media.
