On Thursday, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State presented the 2026 budget proposal of ₦861.337 billion to the State House of Assembly, referring to it as a roadmap for transformation and enhanced governance.

While addressing lawmakers in Gusau, the governor stated that the budget aims to consolidate ongoing reforms and bolster development across essential sectors.

He highlighted that the proposal allocates ₦714 billion for capital expenditure, which constitutes 83% of the overall budget, while ₦147.28 billion, or 17%, is designated for recurrent expenditure.

Allocations by sector include ₦65 billion for education, ₦87 billion for health, ₦86 billion for agriculture, ₦45 billion for public order and safety, ₦22 billion for environmental protection, and ₦17 billion for social protection.

Lawal emphasized that his administration is dedicated to rebuilding public trust, enhancing service delivery, and establishing a foundation for long-term economic and social stability.

He further stated that the substantial capital expenditure component aims to rebuild infrastructure, enhance security, modernize agriculture, improve healthcare delivery, and broaden access to education, particularly for youth and vulnerable populations.

Governor Lawal called upon lawmakers to give the proposal careful consideration to facilitate timely passage for effective implementation.
