Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has introduced a Five-Year Strategic Plan for the State Bureau for Peace and Conflict Management.
This initiative, as stated by the governor, represents a renewed dedication to peacebuilding, social cohesion, and sustainable development throughout the state.
The formal launch, held at the Executive Council Chambers in Government House, Jalingo, was carried out by the Chief of Staff, Dr. Jeji Williams, who represented the governor.
The detailed plan outlines essential duties for the Bureau, including conflict mediation, coordination of peace initiatives, promotion of social harmony, and the establishment of early warning and response systems to avert the escalation of disputes.
In his remarks, the governor reiterated the administration’s commitment to nurturing peace, improving security, and fostering inclusive governance across Taraba State.
He also expressed gratitude to the German Federal Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation, as well as the GIZ Peace Core Project, for their assistance in developing the strategic framework.
“This plan serves as a blueprint for achieving long-term stability and community involvement,” he stated.
The governor encouraged traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society organizations, and residents to actively participate in its implementation.
Rev. Dr. Innocent Solomon, Chairman of the Bureau, characterized the launch as a significant milestone in the state’s journey toward institutionalizing peace. He emphasized that Taraba, which has experienced recurring communal and ethnic tensions, necessitates a structured and proactive approach to conflict resolution.
“We now possess a roadmap that transitions us from reactive to preventive conflict management,” he remarked.
