The Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu, has announced the dissolution of the State’s Local Government Service Commission Board.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, he clarified that this decision was made following the discovery of alleged abuse of office and mismanagement during the commission’s recent recruitment process.

He stated: “My dear people of Cross River State, I want to inform you that I have dissolved the Board of the Local Government Service Commission. This decision was made because we uncovered serious abuse of office and dishonesty in the recent job recruitment.”

Describing the irregularities as unjust and unacceptable, Governor Otu emphasized that such actions undermine genuine governance and diminish public trust in the government.

“What occurred was wrong and unfair. It betrayed the trust you placed in us,” he remarked.

“The recruitment process that has already been halted will remain suspended.”

“We will initiate it again properly, transparently, and based on merit, ensuring that only qualified individuals are hired,” Otu stated.

He further assured citizens that he would not tolerate any form of corruption within the government or among public officials, highlighting that such practices impede the state’s progress.

He added, “We will continue to take decisive action to ensure our institutions are honest and trustworthy.

“Together, we will create a better Cross River State where things are conducted correctly,” Otu concluded.
