The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has fulfilled his promise of rewarding outstanding students from public and private primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, as well as teachers and schools that have distinguished themselves by winning laurels in state and national competitions.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Abayomi Arigbabu, while presenting cheques to the awardees in Abeokuta, explained that the gesture was in fulfilment of the governor’s promise during the 2025 combined convocation ceremonies of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Ojere, and the Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences, Ilese, to reward best graduating students with cash gifts ranging from N2 million to N2.5 million each.
Arigbabu noted that the back-to-back feats recorded by primary and secondary school learners were a testament to the fact that the investments of the present administration in the education sector were yielding the desired results.
He disclosed that the state had not only become a model for other states, but also for the Federal Ministry of Education.
“For about five years and still counting, our state contingents have continued to top various competitions. This shows that we are doing very well in the education sector,” he said.
Speaking, the Director of Education, Department of Science and Technology, Mrs. Abosede Edun, stated that learners’ performances at the 2025 National Institute of Physics Conference, the National Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (NSTAN), the Joint Engineering and Technician Scientists (JETS) Competition, among others, were quite impressive. She revealed that the contingents emerged with seven first positions in different categories, two second positions, three third positions, as well as one fourth position.
Commending the ministry for its unflinching support, the State Chairman of STAN, Yomi Onanuga, praised the commissioner for his efforts and experience in the education sector, describing him as a round peg in a round hole.
The 2025 overall best graduating student of MAPOLY, Joseph Owolabi, and the Best Teacher in Nigeria (Primary Category), Mr. Francis Solanke, promised to continue to be good ambassadors of their schools and the state at large.
