The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appointed Dr. Suleiman Wali Sani, mni, as the new Chief of Staff to the Government House, Kano.
This announcement was made on Thursday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Dr. Sani, a seasoned medical practitioner and public administrator, brings with him over 40 years of dedicated service to Kano State and Nigeria.
Prior to this elevation, he served as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Civil Service Matters.
A graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with MB, BS degrees in Medicine, Dr. Sani also holds a diploma from Bayero University, Kano, and is an alumnus of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru â where he earned the prestigious Member of the National Institute (mni) title.
Dr. Sani’s leadership journey has seen him serve in multiple high-level positions across Kano’s public service.
These include roles as Director General in the Ministries of Health and Commerce, Permanent Secretary in several key MDAs, and Chief Medical Director of major hospitals like Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital and Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital.
He has also been an active voice in shaping health policy and governance reform, having served on more than 40 committees at both state and national levels.
His work has taken him to international platforms representing Nigeria on health and administrative matters.
Widely admired for his discipline, integrity, and unwavering commitment to development, Dr. Sani is expected to bring renewed direction and structure to the coordination of government activities at the Government House.
In a parallel appointment, Governor Yusuf has named Major General Mohammed Sani (Rtd.) as the new Director General of Special Services at the Government House.
Maj. Gen. Sani, a battle-tested infantry officer, served the Nigerian Army with distinction for over 35 years. During his career, he held several strategic command and staff positions and played leading roles in national security, peacekeeping, and conflict resolution both locally and internationally.
According to the statement, the restoration of the Office of the Chief of Staffâwhich was earlier dissolved in December 2024âis part of the Governor’s broader reforms aimed at improving efficiency and deepening governance in the state.
Both appointments take immediate effect, and the Governor has charged the appointees to bring their vast experience to bear in advancing the administration’s commitment to transparent and responsive governance.
