Renowned Fuji artist Wasiu Ayinde Adesanya, commonly known as K1, has submitted a petition to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, regarding his exclusion from the selection process for nominees to fill the vacant Awujale of Ijebuland throne.

K1, in his petition, urged the governor to ensure that the selection process is conducted strictly according to established laws and procedures.

In a formal petition dated January 8, 2026, and submitted through his legal representative, Wahab K. Shittu, SAN, the musician called on the Ogun State Executive Council, via the governor, to intervene in what he described as deliberate efforts to exclude him and other eligible princes from the nomination process.

K1 alleged that leaders of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House were taking steps that could unfairly disqualify certain family members from participating in the selection process.

He asserted that the actions taken thus far by the Ijebu-Ode Local Government and the ruling house were inconsistent with due process and existing legal frameworks.

The artist objected to directives from the ruling house requiring aspiring candidates to purchase nomination forms and submit themselves to a screening panel. He contended that such requirements were not outlined in the Chieftaincy Declaration or the Obas and Chiefs Laws of Ogun State.

The letter indicated that the Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Local Government had previously instructed the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, in a letter dated January 6, 2026, to convene a statutory family meeting within 14 days to nominate candidates for the vacant throne. However, while preparations for the meeting were underway, a notice allegedly issued by Prince Adeleye Lateef Ademuyiwa, who identified himself as the family’s Public Relations Officer, introduced additional procedures, including screening and delegate-based nominations.

The notice reportedly stated that the nomination exercise would take place on January 12, 2026, at the Bisrod Event Centre, Ijebu-Ode, with delegates to be selected at a prior meeting scheduled for January 10.

K1’s counsel described these developments as unlawful and cautioned that they could disenfranchise legitimate members of the ruling house. The letter emphasized that every qualified member of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House has the right to participate freely in nominating candidates and that no faction should monopolize the process.

The petition warned that attempts to impose screening panels and delegate systems contradict both the Chieftaincy Declaration and the Obas and Chiefs Laws of Ogun State, 2021, and could lead to unnecessary disputes.

The Fuji star thus appealed to Governor Abiodun to act promptly in the interest of fairness and transparency, adding that any attempt to unlawfully exclude him from the process would be vigorously contested.

It should be noted that K1 had previously withdrawn a case filed at the Ogun State High Court in Ijebu-Ode, where he challenged claims by the ruling house that he was not recognized as a legitimate member of the family.

Meanwhile, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House is expected, unless there are last-minute changes, to conduct the nomination exercise on Monday at the Bisrod Event Centre, Ijebu-Ode.
