IT could prove difficult to split the world’s two best golfers, Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy onthe course this week â and it is the same story in the betting market for the USPGA.
Masters champion McIlroy has been the most consistent player in the game so far this year with three victories, while Scheffler finally opened his account for 2025 by romping to a five shot victory at the CJ Cup in Dallas.
So it is no surprise that most bookies find it hard to choose between them. They are joint favourites on most lists, and the best price you will find for either of them is 5-1.
Considering he has won four times at this week’s venue, Quail Hollow in Charlotte, McIlroy looks more tempting than the world No 1 at those odds.
But their dominance means there are some decent prices to be had for some other big name golfers, who could reward each way support.

PGA Championship betting tips
Justin Thomas won the USPGA the last time it was held at Quail Hollow, in 2017, and he also took this title in 2022.
The USPGA set-up seems to suit him, and Thomas has emerged from a loss of form â and a run of frustrating near-misses â to reclaim a place in the top five of the world rankings.
He got back to winning ways with a play-off victory at the Heritage three weeks ago, and showed he had not over-done the celebrations when finishing joint second behind Sepp Straka at the Truist on Sunday.
At a best-priced 18-1, he looks better value than the likes of defending champion Bryson DeChambeau and world No 3 Xander Schauffele.
DeChambeau warmed up for his title defence with victory at the LIV Korea event, and is third on the odds list behindScheffler and McIlroy at around 8-1. But his final round flop at Augusta does not inspire confidence, especially at those odds.
Schauffele finally cracked the Majors by winning the US Open AND the Open last year.
But he has not been firing on all cylinders since being sidelined for two months earlier this year with a rib injury, even though a share of eighth at Augusta was a decent effort. I’d like to see something better before taking the 20-1 on offer.
I prefer the chances of Collin Morikawa, who was put forward at the start of this year as a sound bet at 11-2 to win any of the four Majors.
He won this title and picked up the Claret Jug in 2021, and it is about time he won another one. The world No 4 is available at 25-1, and that looks worth taking.

Straka is the only player other than McIlroy to have won more than once on the PGA Tour this year. It is asking a lot for him to go back-to-back, but the former Open runner-up is a tempting each way bet at 66-1.
Tommy Fleetwood has made a habit of finding one or more players performing just a bit better than him, and it happened again when he finished in a tie for fourth at the Truist. But at 33-1 he also appeals as an each way bet.
Corey Conners is also a bit of a nearly man â but another close call nearly could still pay off at a general 50-1.And at evenbigger prices, 125-1 shots Akshay Bhatia and Si Woo Kim are worth a small interest.
Andrew Novak disappointed slightly when tied 17th at the Truist, but at 150-1 it could be worth giving him a chance to bounce back.
