GERWYN PRICE has taken a harsh jab at the PDC World Darts Championship.

He even implied that the tournament has regressed, despite the £1 million winner's prize.

Price was victorious at Alexandra Palace in 2021 when he defeated Gary Anderson in the final.

This year's tournament features 128 participants, an increase from 96, which means there are no byes for the top players.

Consequently, the seeded players must win seven matches to be crowned champion instead of six and will have to compete twice before Christmas.

However, they will receive a higher prize money.

Still, the world No. 10, aged 40, is not pleased with the revised schedule.

At the Players Championship Finals, he remarked, “I mentioned yesterday that you actually receive less for winning seven games this year than you did last year.”

“If you win seven games this year, you earn £400,000.”

“Last year, the prize was £500,000.”

“So, you need to win an extra game for an additional £600,000.”

“I understand it’s a larger prize at the end, but in some ways, they’ve taken a step back.”

“I believe they need to reevaluate the payout structure — for this tournament and all others as well.”

The draw for the highly anticipated world championship will take place soon.

Price admitted he will take a break from his construction work to watch it.

The Welshman added, “Honestly, I’m busy with various tasks. I like to keep myself occupied.”

“I’m building an annex at my dad’s house, going in and out of there, and managing my other projects.”

“I didn’t even realize the draw was happening until my brother called me.”

“I will watch the draw. Hopefully, I’ll have a decent path, which usually doesn’t happen, and then I’ll practice as best as I can and give it my all.”
