THOUSANDS of GCSE students are nervously waiting across the country to open their results this morning.

Pupils in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will find out their GCSE and level 2 vocational and technical qualification (VTQ) grades, which will help them to move on to sixth form, college or training.

Last year, 21.8 per cent of GCSE entries in the UK were awarded the top grades (at least a 7 or an A grade), down slightly from 22 per cent in 2023.

While the percentage of top grades awarded this year is expected to be broadly similar to 2024, it has been suggested that teenagers could face tougher competition for sixth form places this summer.

Results will be released from around 8am this morning but each school may vary with when collection should take place.
