In a video shared on Instagram, Alison ( @wesandalisontips ) demonstrated how a large metal colander can turn into a discrete compost bin.

She dug a large well into one of her raised gardening beds until she could fully submerge the deep pot under the soil.

The life-hacker left the insides empty and covered the top with a perfectly fitting plate because she couldn’t find a lid.

Since there wasn’t a handle, she also stuck an adorable garden gnome on top with gorilla glue.

Alison spread a good amount of rocks on the plate to weight it down and covered up the sides with dirt before leaving it to dry for a day.

After waiting 24 hours, she could seamlessly grab the gnome and reveal the inside of her underground compost bin, which is perfect for fruit and vegetable scraps.

For her final time, she recommended keeping the rocks wet with water to attract pollinators.

“I’m so proud of this I think it’s so cute,” said the life-hacker.

This isn’t the only hack gardeners should memorize as the spring weather comes in full force.

Homeowners may not know there’s actually a they should mow their lawns to keep grass lush.

Plus, there’s three unexpected items gardeners should never put in their bird feeders.
