MIKEL ARTETA has revealed Gabriel Jesus is close to returning to Arsenal – and he is set to take part in a specially-arranged game.

Striker Jesus has been out for 10 months due to an ACL injury but he is close to a return and is back in full training.

Now, Arteta is organising a friendly this week as the next test for the Brazilian.

Arteta said: “He is quite close. Earlier than expected. In the next few days, he will have another step to make in a game we will organise for him and after that he will be knocking on the door.”

While Sunday’s game against Chelsea might be too early, Jesus looks certain to be back soon.

Arteta, speaking ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, also confirmed that Martin Odegaard should return after just missing out in Sunday’s 4-1 win over Spurs. He has been sidelined since early October.

Viktor Gyokeres, Kai Havertz and Gabriel were the three players who did not train today.

Arteta said: “We will have a meeting today to decide about Martin. He was very close to the last game and we are hoping he will be part of the squad.

“We know the importance of the match and we are in a strong position.”

More to follow.
