The Zamfara State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has seized 151 vehicles during a special patrol carried out in September aimed at reducing road traffic violations throughout the state.
Sector Commander Aliyu Ma’aji announced this on Wednesday in Gusau, stating that the operation targeted offenses such as overloading, mixed loading, and excessive speeding.
He disclosed that 75 of the confiscated vehicles were stopped for attempting to bribe FRSC personnel, adding that the offenders would be prosecuted for both corruption and traffic violations.
Ma’aji also mentioned that 76 additional vehicles were impounded for various road infractions, with plans in progress to set up a mobile court to expedite the prosecution of offenders.
“Zamfara acts as a corridor to Sokoto, Kebbi, and the Republic of Niger, with numerous vehicles passing through the state. Many of the overloaded vehicles do not originate from this area, making it challenging to trace their sources,” he stated.
The commander cautioned motorists to refrain from traffic violations or risk facing the full consequences of the law, emphasizing that the FRSC would maintain its vigilance to ensure safer highways.
Ma’aji encouraged all road users and stakeholders to work together with the Corps to minimize accidents and promote adherence to traffic regulations across the state.
