The Progressives Unity and Development Forum (PUDF) has warned the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and rights activist Omoyele Sowore against the upcoming nationwide protest aimed at pressuring the Federal Government to release Nnamdi Kanu.
DAILY POST recalls that Sowore has asserted that the planned #FreeNnamdiKanuNow march to the Presidential Villa will take place on October 20, labeling the date as “sacrosanct.”
However, in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Mr. Abraham Nwanchukwu, the Progressives Unity and Development Forum expressed concern that the protest could be exploited by hoodlums and political opportunists who might use the event to incite violence and attack government properties.
“Sowore should be cautioned now, prior to the event, that similar protests in the past have spiraled out of control, with hoodlums seizing the opportunity to loot and vandalize public and private properties,” the statement cautioned.
The group referenced past incidents in Kano, Kaduna, and Lagos where peaceful demonstrations escalated into violence, resulting in significant damage to public infrastructure.
“In light of this, we urge IPOB, Sowore, and other supporters of the planned protest to reconsider their actions and opt for more civic and responsible means of engagement,” the statement continued.
“No one holds a monopoly on violence, and we are issuing this warning to avert any actions that could provoke counter-reactions or jeopardize national peace.”
The group called on security agencies to remain alert and urged Nigerians to refrain from being manipulated by those “seeking to destabilize the country under the pretense of activism.”
