Foreign firms not needed to fix refineries – Onuesoke

Published on June 28, 2025 at 08:00 AM

A former Delta State Gubernatorial Aspirant and Public Affairs Commentator, Sunny Onuesoke, has said foreign companies are not necessary for the rehabilitation of Nigerian refineries, saying “Nigerian experts have the required expertise.”;

This was contained in a statement personally signed by Onuesoke and made available to our correspondent in Warri.

He expressed confidence in the technical capacity of Nigerian engineers and technicians, particularly those within the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, to revive and manage the country’s refineries.

Onuesoke, who cited past successful maintenance efforts by local engineers as evidence, also suggests that political will and the elimination of corruption are more critical than foreign technical support.

The statement reflected nationalistic and cost-saving sentiments, emphasizing the need to empower local professionals.

Onuesoke also criticised the recurring trend of awarding contracts to foreign firms for tasks he believes Nigerians can handle.
