FLOYD MAYWEATHER claimed ‘push-ups and sit-ups’ were the main source of his training before beating boxing novice Conor McGregor.
The ring legend beat UFC star McGregor through ten rounds in 2017 in what was an unprecedented crossover fight.
Mayweather, now 45, was competing for the first time in two years but was not fazed by the knockout power his opponent was showcasing in the cage.
The American gave away some of the opening rounds, taking the occasional left hand or pawing jab, before stepping on the gas and stopping an exhausted McGregor who, despite amateur experience, was boxing as a pro for the first time.
Such was Mayweatherâs pre-fight confidence, he insists only the occasional boxing session and some home workouts prepared him to face McGregor in Las Vegas.
He told Drink Champs last year: âFor Conor McGregor, I didnât really train.
âAll I did was do push-ups and sit-ups. Thatâs all I did. Push-ups and sit-ups, box a few times, hit the bag a few times.
âBecause, actually, the training camp was in different places.
âI would do a training camp in Vegas a few days. Sometimes I wouldnât go to the gym for a week.
âI took it serious. Like I said before, I wanted to have some fun in the fight. I wanted to entertain the people.â
Mayweather has fought in four exhibition bouts since taking on McGregor, including a June 2021 bout with YouTuber Logan Paul.
The 50-0 champ is now set to take on another YouTube star Deji in Dubai on Sunday.
Mayweather could also rematch McGregor with Money’s team in talks with the UFC star’s team for a two-fight contract which will see the pair meet again in the boxing ring – followed by a second MMA fight.
It has been reported that the clash could be bring in a world record £1.3billion payday to be split between the two fighters.
Both matches will be for official record and the Mayweather is even willing to put his trademark TBE – The Best Ever – up for grabs, according to an insider.
And the matches will take place in Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia in 2023 if the contracts are drawn up.
