A fire outbreak on Sunday destroyed the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) Clinic located along the Maiduguri-Bypass in Bauchi, damaging hospital beds and medical equipment valued at millions of Naira.
The fire reportedly ignited around 7:20 a.m., shortly after power was restored to the facility. Ezekiel Waziri, Supervisor of ECWA Clinics in the Bauchi District, indicated that the blaze is believed to have been triggered by an electrical fault.
According to Waziri, the fire started subtly from the roof and rapidly spread, consuming the entire building.
“All the beds, incubators, genotype machines, medications, and nearly all the medical equipment in the clinic were destroyed,” he stated.
Waziri urged the Bauchi State Government and other relevant authorities to intervene and assist in the reconstruction of the clinic to restore healthcare services to the community.
Mai-Samari Bernard, the Officer in Charge of the clinic, confirmed the extent of the damage, stating that medications worth approximately N2.5 million were lost.
Bernard mentioned that an inventory would be conducted after the fire is fully controlled to accurately document the losses.
Dauda Pali, Director of the Bauchi State Fire Service, also confirmed the incident, noting that firefighters responded swiftly and successfully prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings. He stated that the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Pali advised residents to take additional safety precautions, particularly during the current cold season when fire outbreaks are more prevalent.
