NSN CYCLING TEAM chiefs have confirmed they have pulled out of the Volta a Portugal following Finlay Tarling’s tragic death.

The Welshman at the age of 19 after a serious accident yesterday.

Tarling was competing in the Volta a Portugal when he was struck by a car, leading to the eighth stage of the event being stopped.

And the NSN Team have now announced his team-mates will not be involved in the rest of the competition.

A statement read: “Following Fin Tarling’s tragic passing on Friday, the NSN Development Team has withdrawn from the remaining Volta a Portugal stages.

“With the full support of Fin’s parents, the World Tour team will race on at Czech Tour and the Arctic Race of Norway.

“We will continue to hold Fin in out hearts as we in his honour, doing what he loved most.

“We want to thank everyone in the cycling community and beyond for the incredible support at this difficult time.”

TNT Sports commentator Jez Cox could be heard when news broke that the time trial specialist had died.

He said: “Nothing in my life has prepared me for what to say next. All I can say is that we extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends.

“It’s the type of announcement I never wanted to make on air about any rider at all and I am so very, very sorry.”

, which is co-owned by Manchester United minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe, released an emotional tribute.

They said: “Everyone at Netcompany INEOS is heartbroken by the tragic passing of Finlay Tarling.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Josh, Michael, Dawn and the entire Tarling family, as well as Fin’s team-mates, friends and all those who knew and loved him.

“We stand together with Josh and his family at this incredibly difficult time. Rest in peace, Fin.”

Portuguese president Antonio Jose Seguro claimed Tarling’s death “plunged peloton, the tournament and the host nation into mourning.”
