The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has restored electricity supply to Taraba State following the completion of upgrade works on the Yola–Mayo Belwa–Jalingo transmission line.
Power supply to Jalingo and surrounding areas was fully restored on Wednesday after all required pre-commissioning tests and the mandatory soak period were successfully concluded in line with operational standards.
The upgrade works, according to a statement issued by the company on Wednesday, necessitated a planned outage that commenced at 2:16 pm on January 9, 2026.
According to TCN, the shutdown was required to allow contractors to carry out critical activities, including line stringing from the terminal tower to a newly constructed line bay.
The works, the company stated, were aimed at enabling the energisation of newly installed 150MVA power transformers at the Jalingo and Mayo Belwa Transmission Substations.
“As part of the project, the Gombe–Yola transmission line was temporarily opened on January 11, 2026, to facilitate line bay extension and transfer works at the Yola Transmission Substation, ensuring the safe and seamless execution of the upgrade.
“The upgrade of the Mayo Belwa and Jalingo Transmission Substations from 132kV to 330kV is expected to significantly enhance power reliability and increase transmission capacity in Taraba State and neighbouring areas.
“Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) is a major beneficiary of the project, which is also designed to support rising electricity demand in the region,” TCN said in the statement signed by General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah.
TCN also commended electricity consumers for their patience during the outage and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the national transmission grid to deliver reliable and efficient power supply across the country.
