Italian Athlete Rocks 'Most Outrageous Haircut' at European Championships Due to Quirky Tradition!

FILIPPO DEZZA stunned fans with the “worst haircut ever seen” at the European Athletics Championships.

The Italian sprinter, 20, won his 200m heat at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.

In addition to dazzling fans with his speed, Dezza also shocked them with his curious barnet.

The sprint sensation rocked up to the start line with an X-shape shaven into his hair.

Explaining what on Earth was going on, commentary said: “There is a tradition in the Italian squad that on your debut on the men’s side they like to shave a chunk out of your hair.

“if you ever see an Italian lined up in a major championships with a chunk of hair out of their head they haven’t done it themselves…

“It’s a ceremony they do with their team-mates, they always video it, it’s very funny.”

Dezza himself lifted the lid on what happened, pointing to Italian team captain Gianmarco Tamberi.

He said: “Let’s hope it brings a bit of good luck. Well, as I already said, being my first time with the national team, it’s a bit of a rookie initiation ritual.

“So before coming here, I said: ‘It’s my absolute first national team call-up, let’s enjoy it. I’m doing the individual race too, who cares, it’s all good.’

“In fact, right when I recited the oath, I was there with the other rookies and I told Tamberi: ‘Look, do whatever you want, I don’t care, it grows back, let’s just enjoy it.’ And so they did.

“Soon I’ll have to get another haircut, I think I’ll just go fully shaved (buzz cut). And let’s hope it brings a bit of luck. I’ll definitely have less drag/air resistance in the race, that’s for sure! And let’s hope there’s a little bit of a favorable tailwind.”

Dezza reached the semi-finals by winning his heat with a time of 20.60.

He then made it to Friday’s final by posting a 20.35 time in the semis.

Commenting on Dezza’s barnet, one fan wrote on X: “The Italian athlete has the worst haircut I’ve ever seen”.

And another added: “That initiation is definitely not for the faint-hearted!”
