FCT: NASS not afraid to approve Wike’s budget proposals – Benjamin Kalu

Published on June 19, 2025 at 07:52 PM

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has disclosed that the National Assembly is not afraid to approve the budget proposals of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.

Kalu stated that the National Assembly is aware that Wike knows how to invest government resources to benefit the residents of the capital territory.

He made the remarks during the inauguration of the newly constructed Collector Road CN2 (Zakari A. Kyari Street) in Abuja, commissioned by President Bola Tinubu in celebration of his second year in office.

He said: “The Minister of the FCT, the president calls you my friend but I call you my brother in whom I’m well pleased.

“Let me say thank you to the FCT Minister, I said so because often time the parliament is worried when we make our budget, whether the report of the budget performance will be a reflection of what the intention of the parliamentarian was at the time of making that appropriation law.

“Time and again last year when you did, they said you won’t repeat it this year but this year you have given us 17 days to commission projects, we are proud of you.

“We want to assure you that we are never afraid of approving your proposals when they come before the parliament because we know you know how to invest government resources to be able to impact the lives of the people that we govern.”;

Kalu said both the President and the National Assembly are impressed with Wike’s performance.

He insisted that Wike’s achievements have dispelled claims that the Renewed Hope Agenda is merely theoretical.

“It’s not only the president that is impressed with your services, the parliament is impressed with your services, truly you have projected in reality not in theory the aspiration of Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Many who thought it was mere theory, daily in this centres where all Nigerians gather, the melting point of all the 36 states of Nigeria, you have steadily, continuously, and diligently proven that the principles guiding the Renewed Hope Agenda are not mere theories. You have given life to them and for that we are grateful,”; he added.
